The second semester has been cleared by me, seem to be the only one so far, and the last (third) semester has started. The third semester has the final project. In this project I proposed to make a dating web site that makes use of artificial intelligence. The AI is used in the matching system. Since AI is very suitable for matching and to make inferences. In the first stage however I had and have to read about what makes a good match, a system can learn this, but that takes a while, so to start with some real human knowledge will make the system at least somewhat robust. This knowledge is in the form of an expert system, based on the knowledge of people in the field of social psychology, matches are made. Besides crisp reasoning, fuzzy logic, is applied. Since most human logic is vague, fuzzy sets and inferences can represent this knowledge in a better war. Besides the fuzzy logic I try to implement neural networks to learn which characteristics will combine for a good match. This last part is optional since the whole implementation using AJAX, PHP, Perl, MySQL and possibly AIR is a whole lot of work in its own. Not to mention to review the literature and of course to present all this in my thesis.

Since it is hard to find a good name for a daitng site that has not been taken I registered the following domains which were still free. Unfortunately some people have no clue what AI is about (well it is Artiificial Intelligence), which I used in the names www.aidating.nl and www.aidating.co.uk, as an alternative I also registered datingatmosphere.com. If anyone knows an original name thatis not taken, please let me know.

De Toekomst

20 weken lang voorspelde de VPRO de toekomst. Van diepzwart tot rooskleurig, allerlei mogelijke scenario's voor het Nederland van 2025 zijn voorbij gekomen. Erg leuk zijn de uitzendingen "Leven in de Tweede wereld" en "Roboliefde", omdat deze ingaan op toepassingen van mijn studie (kunstmatige intelligentie); er wordt ook in Groningen onderzoek gedaan met de Aibo en de iCat

Nieuw kwartaal

Een nieuw kwartaal is weer begonnen met dit kwartaal de vakken Kunstmatige Intelligentie II dat vooral over patroonherkenning gaat. Het vak Voorgezette Logica, dat over het maken van bewijzen gaat in verschillende logica's en het vak Fysische Methoden dat gaat over elementaire natuurkunde en neurofysica.

Human v2.0

Afgelopen dinsdag zond de BBC de documentaire Human v2.0 uit. De documentaire wijst ons erop dat in 2029 de complexiteit van de kunstmatige mens die van de klassieke (biologische) mens zal overschreiden. Wellicht is het zelfs zo dat de niet aangepaste mens (dus niet-cyborg) zal uitsterven omdat er een superieur ras ontstaat. De documentaire brengt een aantal aspecten naar voren die onderdeel zijn van de kunstmatige Intelligentie waaronder artificial life. Een zeer interessant gebied omdat de aanpak in de AI fundamenteel anders is dan die van robotbouwers met een technische inslag. KI baseert zich o.a. op de neurowetenschappen. Omdat volgens mij veel mensen de complexiteit van een mens ver overschatten leek me deze documentaire zeker op zijn plaats.

Computational Intelligence and Robotics

Sinds september 2007 ben ik gestart met de opleiding MSc Computational Intelligence and Robotics in Leicester. Dit heeft wel wat weg van AI, maar het richt zich wat meer op de toepassingen en wat minder op menselijke intelligentie. Ik heb me bovendien ingeschreven voor de robotchallenge in Wenen. Hiernaast zie je AIBO, deze robothond zal ik waarschijnlijk gebruiken in de competitie.
